License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia driver’s license required.
Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience Qualifications: Experience providing outreach services to families and children required. Experience in a school setting preferred.
Skills Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, families, students, and staff; demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately; strong clerical skills including typing, word processing skills, and filing; knowledge of basic bookkeeping skills; and ability to represent Gwinnett County Public Schools in a positive and professional manner. High level of bilingual ability in English and predominant minority language preferred.
Primary Responsibilities: Provide support to staff, students, and families, which will increase student achievement by using family engagement strategies that support local school LSPI and Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) mission, vision, and goals.
a. Greet, welcome, and assist families.
b. Maintain frequent, ongoing communication with families.
c. Provide orientation for all families new to the school.
d. Assist school leaders in creating opportunities to involve allfamilies in the education of their children.
e. Provide assistance during learning opportunities/workshops forparents at flexible times.
f. Communicate with families in multiple formats that reflect theneeds of the community.
g. Assist school leaders in identifying top languages for the translationof school documents specifically for families.
a. Advertise family engagement activities through a variety of media.
b. Communicate with families via the school newsletter and website.
c. Serve as the liaison between the local school and district familyengagement support personnel.
d. Initiate and respond to parent telephone calls, e-mails, and writtencorrespondence related to Family Engagement.
a. Attend regularly scheduled family engagement meetings/professionallearning.
b. Collaborate with school leaders to ensure families who need assistancewith understanding progress monitoring, curriculum, assessments, and/orhow to support their children’s academic and non-academic needs are connectedto available resources in a timely and efficient manner.
c. Collaborate with school staff to identify meetings and workshopsfor families to build the capacity of families that align with the school’sLocal School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) based on community needs.
a.Implement FamilyEngagement Programs/Activities in alignment with the training providedby the district’s family engagement personnel.
b. Serve as the liaison for the Office of Family Engagement in supportingthe four pillars of community schools.
c. Assist in the coordination of local staff, district staff, and communitypartners to integrate activities designed to involve all families in theeducation of their children.
d. Collaborate with community stakeholders to create partnerships withlocal businesses.
