A leading and impactful government organisation in Cairns is seeking a Software Support Engineer with experience working on either data or mobile orientated projects to work on a multitude of applications and systems that underpins the running this organisation and those they serve throughout the Cairns/Far-North QLD region.

Your new role

Your new role will see you work within the dedicated and multi-disciplinary Information Services & Technology team comprised of Software, Data, Testing and Technical Support Engineers. The aim of this team is to collaboratively work together to deliver the best possible software orientated outcomes for the organisation as possible.

As a core member of this team, your work will involve a variety of technical activities such as the debugging of API’s for in house-built applications, enterprise-wide deployment of software solutions and technical support for ‘off the shelf’ software platforms. Alongside these you will also be tasked with the design, development and roll out of custom-built software solutions to meet and solve organisational requirements.

Whilst the technical work of this role will vary in the long term, there are two large programs of work which will soon be starting. The first will be based on the deployment and integration of multiple internal and external data sources using .Net (API’s) and MySQL. This aim of this program is to make the use of public resources across the region more efficient. The second will be the re-development of this organisation’s mobile application suite from legacy technologies (e.g. Xamarin) to newer alternatives (e.g. native [Swift, Ob-J, Android, etc], Flutter, React Native, etc). However this programs technologies will be chosen once this team has expanded enough such that the work can start.

Aside from the hands-on responsibilities you will also be charged with the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, capturing business requirements, enforcing this organisations high engineering standards and liaising with stakeholders of all levels. Overall, this role is a combination of software engineering and the technical support of software solutions.

What you’ll need to succeed

You will need experience across as much of the following as possible:

• The Microsoft software eco-system (.Net, C#, etc)
• SQL and its association technologies (MySQL, SQL Server, SSIS, etc)
• Software/technical support for custom built and off the shelf solutions
• API’s (preferable but not essential)
• Mobile Application’s (preferable but not essential)

Aside from the technical skills the following are also needed:

• Stakeholder management
• Technical documentation
• Clear communications (spoken and written English)
• Full AU working rights

What you’ll get in return

You will be offered a permanent role paying up to $95,347.82 base + 12% super plus a yearly locality allowance of $659.00 (with no dependants) and $1,318.00 (with dependants) with a leading and impactful government organisation in Cairns.
