Our Summer Student Program

The Heartland Generation Summer Student Program provides opportunities to post-secondary students to learn and work in a positive, innovative, and agile environment. Under professional mentorship, students will receive opportunities develop skill sets, collaborate, build industry knowledge and apply their academic learnings to gain valuable work experience.

​How do you fit in?

• Have completed your first year of full-time, post-secondary studies by May 2023.
• Are committed to a four-month summer work-term, from May to August 2023.

What you’ll be doing:

• Provide support to the finance team to prepare reconciliations, and simple updating of models with consistent data.
• Scanning historic engineering project files to reduce boxes in Iron Mountain
• General gathering & cleanup of engineering documentation based on direction from senior Engineers.
• Assistance with HSSE and training exam marking for the operations group.
• Vacation coverage for accounting clerk for several tasks including updating inputs into billings models, electronic filing of 2019-2021 accounting files out of the temporary RIM migration folder and re-building of some long-term use reports to easier update and copy and paste into other supporting files.
• General lab group support including report updating.
• General maintenance group support including filing, workorder closure, stationary ordering & stocking.
• General gathering & electronic filing of QC documentation based on direction from Chief Inspector.

All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with established health, safety and environmental principles, corporate policies, practices and procedures and applicable government legislation.

What you must have:

• Comfortability with electronic filing structures.
• Familiarity with SharePoint, Excel and Word.
• Good organization skills.
• Ability to work independently based on task lists.
• An interest in engineering or business would be an asset.
