Position Description

The office engineer (OE) acts as the assistant to the project engineer. On jobs which do not have a project engineer, the OE will report directly to the project manager or project superintendent as determined by the project team. Responsibilities of the position are similar to the project engineer; however, requirements of the job or the experience of the individual preclude him or her from taking total responsibility. Depending on the size and complexity of the project, there may be one or more office engineers.

Essential Duties:

• Support the field – The primary way this is done is through Materials Management. This includes submittals, shop drawings, and expediting material deliveries.

• Create and track RFIs.

• Process subcontract bonds, insurance, pay applications, correspondence, change estimates, change orders.

• Help with gathering data for the monthly Owner Pay Application and Margin Analysis.

• Safety – Participate in the jobsite safety meetings, weekly safety audits, etc.

• Quality – Facilitate and/or participate in Preparatory Meetings, Initial Inspections, Follow-up Inspections, etc.

• Other duties as designated by the project engineer, project manager, or project superintendent.

• Working knowledge of how the VDC Scope of Work, VDC Execution Plan, and VDC deliverables align to the project planning strategies related to field operations (i.e., schedule, model coordination for submittals, constructability review, installation validation, BIM to Field Layout, Field Layout to BIM). Ability to review and navigate within the current 3D model viewing and scheduling software and collaborate with the VDC team.

Qualifications:

• A 4-year degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture, or construction management.

• 1 – 2+ years of experience.

• United States citizen.

• Valid Driver’s License.

• Strong communication skills.

• Computer software – Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel-based templates, Prolog, Primavera and AutoDesk Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Past internships in the construction industry.
