Hiku

The name comes from the Māori word for ‘whale tail’ and is inspired by Kaikōura’s most iconic attraction. It is also influenced by the strong historic and modern culture and heritage of the area. We celebrate this and show off what Kaikōura is all about – kai moana, fresh produce, marine life, and dramatic sea and mountain scapes.

Sudima Kaikōura is a new 4.5-star hotel on the esplanade of Kaikōura’s waterfront, conveniently located at the end of the town centre. The hotel has spectacular 360 views of the seaward Kaikōura mountain range, waterfront and peninsula with a high quality fit-out, 120 well-appointed rooms, restaurant, bar, conference facilities and infinity pool.

The Role | Te Mahi

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Commis Chef at Hiku, our new restaurant at Sudima Kaikōura. We are looking for experienced Chef’s with creative skills and a desire to innovate and ensure consistent quality food. We value working together as one and all contributing to team results. The Hiku kitchen team will offer our guests room service, an a la carte restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and conference and events catering.

Responsibilities | Ngā haepapa

• Preparation and cooking of meals
• Supporting with kitchen services and cleaning
• Following the guidance of the Senior chefs
• Follow and enforce strict health and hygiene standards

Requirements

• Planning and organizing skills and an ability to work individually and in a team
• Ability to multi-task, show flexibility and meet deadlines, work under pressure
• Flexible to work rostered shifts
• Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment
• Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks
• Excellent time management abilities
• Understanding of H&S legislation and strict hygiene standards
• Valid Right to Work in NZ
