A fire watch is responsible for observing hot work and detect any fires during hot work operations. The fire watch duties are the following:

• Prevent fire hazards in the workplace while work is performed by other workers
• Alert supervisors if you find any hazardous condition
• Maintain constant communication and keep visual contact with workers
• Before and during each shift, be aware of the work area and look for potential hazards
• Be prepared to operate fire extinguishers at anytime
• Never leave the job site while work is being done, if you must leave, stop the job and notify all workers so a replacement can be assigned
• When all operations are done, do not leave the worksite unless you’re sure that there are no hot sparks and other fire hazards.

Require Education and Experience:

• High school education/equivalent preferred.
• Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and procedures preferred.
• Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and required to communicate effectively in English.

Unique/Additional Requirements:

• Must be able to work all shifts and heights
• Must show at least two years of continuous, stable and verifiable employment.
• Frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, occasional kneeling, reclining and finger dexterity.
• Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.
