Responsibilities Job Summary Provide administrative, technical, educational, and coordinating support to ensure effective Point-of-Care (POC) testing for all areas. Monitor staff compliance, quality control, proficiency and competency testing. Ensure regulatory compliance with all applicable agencies. Assist the POC network manager, laboratory director and appropriate medical director(s) in meeting customer expectations. Participate as effective team member in POC relative to communications, operations and finances as appropriate. Serve as a technical resource for POC testing sites. Ensure that standard laboratory practice is maintained for Quality Assurance (including proficiency testing), quality control, procedure manuals, staff competency and documentation. Provide technical and financial assistance in the development of new assays or procedures. Interpret data with the relevant medical director or network manager or laboratory director. Research and resolve problems and/or assists others in resolving problems appropriately. Consult with pathologists, directors and network manager regarding difficult analyses, abnormal findings or conflicting results Ensure maintenance and validation testing (calibration verification, linearity, and correlation studies) on instruments is performed as needed or appropriate. Maintain and update department procedure manuals as needed or appropriate. Develop new procedures and special reports as requested. Responsible for monitoring and evaluating QC (including maintenance and temperature charts). Ensure that monthly QC reports are prepared and submitted for review. Maintain quality control records for compliance and licensure documentation. Assist units with non-compliance issues. Initiate corrective actions where appropriate. Participate in QA programs to ensure quality standards are met. Continually evaluate the needs and expectations of the customers and implement new quality processes to ensure expectations are met or exceeded. Serve as consultant for QA/QC problem situations; work to resolve situations as they occur so that testing may continue in a timely manner. Develop, implement, maintain and document standard POC testing procedures to ensure quality test results, and the safety and security of patients, personnel and property. Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and inspections. Prepare for and host onsite inspections by certification agencies. Ensure proficiency tests are performed as scheduled, results are evaluated, and appropriate corrective (technical) action is performed as needed. Establish, maintain and document appropriate training and competency programs. Participate in financial auditing process as it relates to supplies. Provide appropriate inventory control. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s Degree Medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science. Required Experience 3 years Hospital laboratory experience as Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist and involvement with Point of Care testing.
