As the Principal DevOps Engineer in the Enterprise Engineering Enablement (E³) organization you will play a key role in evolving the engineer experience for all Humana engineers, setting enterprise standards for development practices + frameworks, and working across the enterprise to help segment engineering teams adopt industry leading DevOps practices.

As the Principal DevOps Engineer in the Enterprise Engineering Enablement (E³) organization you will play a key role in evolving the engineer experience for all Humana engineers, setting enterprise standards for development practices + frameworks, and working across the enterprise to help segment engineering teams adopt industry leading DevOps practices.
The ideal candidate for this role will be proficient in their understanding of the technical aspects of DevOps practices, but also be able to mentor engineering teams who need to level up their development processes to get the maximum benefit from adherence to DevOps principals. Additionally, you will need to be systems thinker as you’ll be playing a leadership role in maturing Humana’s value stream delivery platform into new technologies, as well as working to integrate new engineering platforms to form a cohesive delivery experience across all tech stacks at Humana. Finally, in this role you will need to be skilled at working across organizational boundaries to be the connective tissue of the engineer experience by collaborating with your peers (and leaders) in DevSecOps, DevTestOps, and Infrastructure Automation.
You will crush this role if (required qualifications)…
You have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
You have 10 or more years of technical and 2 – 5 years of project/people leadership experience.
You have demonstrated experience building and leveraging DevOps pipelines to deploy software to a production environment.
You have experience building software with or administering enterprise grade engineer platforms similar to Azure DevOps Services, GitHub, SonarQube, Artifactory, or their industry standard equivalents.
You have experience with software engineering best practices, developer tools, and development frameworks (both open source and not) including the ability to set enterprise standards around their use.
You have experience with cloud technologies, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and emerging DevOps trends like ‘GitOps’ combined with ‘pull’ based deployment technologies like Argo and Terraform Enterprise (TFE).
You have a passion for automating everything, even technologies that traditionally may not be viewed as able to ‘Do DevOps’.
You are a strong communicator, a connector, and enjoy a highly agile work environment. Being the Principal DevOps Engineer at Humana will put you right in the middle of some amazing transformational work.
You would enjoy collaborating with your peers and leaders from across the enterprise to build consensus and set direction in regards to the engineer experience.

Bonus Points (Preferred Qualifications)
You hold a Master’s or Doctorate’s degree.
You enjoy drawing pictures. Seriously. Articulating the engineering experience, and also communicating how segment teams can mature into more advanced practices is uber critical for Humana given where we are in our journey.
You have experience applying artificial intelligence (AI) to DevOps.
You have passion for viewing your work through a data lens, especially in terms of the DORA metrics, and coaching engineers on the value DevOps practices provide.
You understand the value that operational metrics (like response time, SLAs, and SLOs) can bring to a teams DevOps journey, and have demonstrated experience in implementing performance engineering practices.
Resiliency engineering practices are important to you, and you have demonstrated experience in leveraging DevOps to level up the overall health of source code repositories.
You have a working knowledge of deployment automation strategies like feature flags and blue/green deployments.
You have experience integrating automated test tools, frameworks, and practices into the software design lifecycle.

Corporate Headquarters is Louisville, KY.
May also be remote, but will need to be flexible with working eastern time zone hours
