This job was posted by https://idahoworks.gov : For more information, please see: https://idahoworks.gov/jobs/1596268 &&&&&u&Essential Duties and Responsibilities& &/u&&&&&&ul&&li&Performs high level maintenance, troubleshooting, safety inspections, and repair work on all fleet vehicles, light and heavy equipment, industrial equipment, both gas and diesel, and other related equipment;&/li&&li&Fabricates, makes alterations, and welds minor projects;&/li&&li&Troubleshoots and performs inspections and repairs on hydraulic systems, drive trains, transmissions, suspensions, steering systems, heating and air conditioning systems, ventilation systems, and emissions and related systems;&/li&&li&Services gas and diesel vehicles and equipment with fluids and lubricants, performing tune-ups, clutch and brake adjustments, mounting and balancing tires, and servicing front end steering and suspension systems;&/li&&li&Performs troubleshooting and repair work on sophisticated and technical emergency equipment associated with public safety;&/li&&li&Performs vehicle body repairs, painting, and touchup work;&/li&&li&Plans and organizes preventive maintenance schedules; maintains records on vehicles;&/li&&li&Evaluates required repair work for completion in-house or by outside vendor;&/li&&li&Provides emergency field service to disabled vehicles;&/li&&li&Maintains shop and work area in a neat, clean, and tidy manner;&/li&&li&May provide instruction and training to Mechanics;&/li&&li&Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety practices and in accordance with automotive industry standards, policies, procedures, and safety practices.&/li&&/ul&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&Other Duties and Responsibilities&&&&&ul&&li&May be assigned to perform duties with other Department crews;&/li&&li&Performs other related duties as required.&/li&&/ul&&&&em&&&/em&&&&h3&Competency Requirements&/h3&&&Knowledge of:&&&ul&&li&Methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of the automotive mechanic’s trade, with particular reference to fleet vehicles and light and heavy equipment maintenance;&/li&&li&Installation, diagnosis, servicing, and repair of gasoline and diesel engines, brake systems, steering and suspension systems, hydraulic systems, power and transmission systems, vehicle electrical systems, computerized engine controls, and related components and systems;&/li&&li&Operating and maintenance requirements of heavy duty and mainte­nance equipment;&/li&&li&Fabrication of components in building police cars and other County equipment;&/li&&li&Federal (OSHA) and County heavy equipment and automotive repair and maintenance safety principles and practices including the use of air-powered equipment, lifts, and hoists;&/li&&li&Personal computers and software used for maintenance, diagnostic, and repair functions;&/li&&li&Recordkeeping procedures.&/li&&/ul&&&&&&&&Ability to:&&&ul&&li&Operate mechanical tools and equipment for equipment and automotive repair;&/li&&li&Repair equipment and automotive engines (gasoline and diesel), electrical systems, drive train and suspension systems, hoses and belts, and specialty parts;&/li&&li&Inspect equipment and vehicles for common maintenance problems and concerns and monitor fluid levels;&/li&&li&Operate air-powered equipment and tire break-down equipment;&/li&&li&Perform engine tune-ups including computerized control systems;&/li&&li&Read and comprehend equipment and automotive maintenance and repair manuals;&/li&&li&Operate a personal computer and job-related software;&/ li&&li&Follow written and oral instructions;&/li&&li&Maintain vehicle and equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair records, reports, and activity logs;&/li&&li&Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;&/li&&li&Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks;&/li&&li&Operate diagnostic and related electronic equipment using program applications appropriate to assigned duties;&/li&&li&Ability to perform tire repair on automotive, truck and off-road tires&/li&&li&Operate a motor vehicle, including forklift, shop and fuel trucks;&/li&&li&Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with the public, supervisors, and other County employees.&/li&&/ul&&&&&&&&&&&u&Acceptable Experience and Training&/u&&&&&&ul&&li&High school diploma or GED equivalency is required and advanced technical training, including diesel mechanics, is required;&/li&&li&Three (3) years of vehicle and equipment repair experience is required; or&/li&&li&Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.&/li&&/ul&&&&&&&&&&&u&Special Qualifications and Requirements&/u&&&&&&ul&&li&Idaho drivers license with Class A CDL. Hazardous materials and tanker endorsements may be required;&
