Island Health Looking for Pathologists’ Assistant at Courtenay, BC Full Time

Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Unit Supervisor, receiving guidance and clinical direction from the Division Director of Anatomical Pathology or Site Pathologist and in accordance with established policies, plans and procedures, the PathologyAssistant performs Autopsy/Histopathology functions such as gross examination and dissection of surgical tissue samples. Uses a personal computer and a variety of software applications, such as CERNER/CoPATH.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience

Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Graduate of a Master’s level Pathology Assistant Program from a recognized institution, or Registered Technologist (CSMLS) with a Bachelor of Science degree in health related discipline and three (3) years recent related experience in a complex cross dissection and description, or an equivalent combination of qualifications/experience acceptable to the organization.
