Your Impact:

As a Staff Engineer in the Photophysics and Radiation Effects section, you will be involved with the design and development of test fixtures, measurement automation, and execution of experiments to characterize microelectronic components subjected to optical excitation and/or ionizing radiation.

Responsibilities:

• Designs and develops test fixtures (e.g., PCBs) for electrical characterization of components

• Develops automated measurement capabilities for a variety of electrical and optical applications

• Supports calculations, computations, or analyzing technical information related to radiation effects

• Performs appropriate alignment and characterization associated with laser-based experiments

• Independently executes experiments using lasers to characterize microelectronic components

• Works with personnel from multiple sections, branches, and divisions to coordinate efforts for testing, consultation, and analyses.

• Supports the planning and execution of experiments performed by visiting researchers

• Documents and reports findings in the form of test reports and presentations

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• BS or MS degree in electrical, electronic, computer or aerospace engineering, physics, or similar fields.

• Strong foundation of electrical engineering concepts (semiconductor devices, circuit schematic diagrams, circuit analysis, etc.)

• Familiar with a range of electronic test equipment (e.g., power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.)

• Ability to configure and troubleshoot a test setup based on a diagram and be able to use equipment for measurement execution

• Experience with PCB design, soldering, and various prototyping techniques for electronics testing

• Experience with software development using MATLAB (or other programming language) for data analysis, measurement automation and GUI Design

• Must have strong oral and written communication skills

• Must have the ability to work with limited supervision and only general guidance

• The duties of this position may require occasional travel.

• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred:

• Understanding of the effects of radiation on electronic components

• Familiarity with laser-based testing and/or optics-related experiments

Typical salary range for this position is 90,000 to 125,000 and is commensurate with experience relative to the position.
