Today there are more than 85 million refugees and internally displaced people worldwide, the highest level ever recorded.The Major Gift Officer is a full-time position, supporting the functions of the JRS/USA Development team through direct solicitation of individuals and religious congregations in support of both unrestricted funds and specific education/livelihoods and mental health programs for refugees worldwide.Essential Duty #1: Portfolio Management: 65%

• Donor Portfolio Management & Building- Manage and build a portfolio of 75+ active and prospective mid-level individual donors with a goal of totaling $500,000 in contributed revenue annually.
• Expand New Donor Opportunities- Increase support and build relationships with Catholic religious congregations to acquire gifts or grants of $10,000+ in support of JRS refugee programs.
• Donor Prospecting- Research and qualify prospective donors via wealth screening tools, phone calls, and in-person conversations.
• Creation of Stewardship Materials- Create stewardship materials (donor reports, email newsletters, and other collateral as needed) in collaboration with program and communication colleagues.

Essential Duty #2: Institutional Cultivation, Strategy, and Solicitation: 35%

• Develop and Pitch Proposals- Build a pipeline and develop and pitch proposals of $10,000+ for potential grant funders and individuals who have propensity and capacity to support refugee initiatives.
• Project Reporting- Submit periodic progress and final project reports to fulfill donor compliance expectations.
• Strategic Partnership- Support the Director of Development and Senior Major Gift and Legacy Officer to plan and execute strategic fundraising initiatives for unrestricted and program-designated giving. Works closely with JRS/USA Programs team to understand the status of donor-funded projects and accurately communicate reports to donors.
• Develop Strategies to Increase Corporate Giving and Engagement- Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective corporate donors, as well as diplomatic entities, and develop strategies to increase their level of giving and full engagement

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required. Masters preferred.
• At least six years of Fundraising/Advancement experience with an emphasis on gift acquisition and/or comparable professional experience.
• Proven ability to set goals strategically and oversee execution and a proven track record of success in cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts of $10,000 – $50,000.
• Familiarity with Catholic organizations helpful but not required.
• Experience with grant writing and proposals is a strong plus.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and organizational skills.
• The ability to develop and cultivate positive relationships with colleagues, donors, and prospective donors.
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and advancement software – Salesforce experience is a plus.
