essential mental health and social services through every stage of life. JFCS East Bay is an innovative,
multicultural human service agency that has served individuals and families throughout Alameda and
Contra Costa counties since 1877.
The agency’s current programs include resettling refugees, providing mental health services to children
and families, offering immigration legal services, and supporting seniors and Holocaust survivors. Our
staff of more than 60 employees is characterized by its dedication, teamwork, warmth, and humor.
Agency offices are located in downtown Berkeley (five blocks from BART) and Concord (five blocks from
BART), with a satellite location in uptown Oakland.

JOB SUMMARY
JFCS East Bay seeks to hire a Volunteer Services Assistant to help recruit, train, and coordinate
volunteers to support our refugee resettlement program. Reporting to the Volunteer Services Manager,
the Volunteer Services Assistant will primarily be responsible for interacting with and overseeing groups
of volunteers who are supporting refugees as they become acclimated to their new homes. As needed,
the Volunteer Services Assistant will also assist with other Volunteer Services programs. This position will
have the flexibility to do some work remotely, with a home base in and access to our Concord office.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Collaborate with Volunteer Services Manager and Refugee Services staff to develop and
implement trainings that support cultural understanding and awareness.

Develop tracking and evaluation systems to measure the effectiveness of volunteer efforts.
Recruit, onboard, and train volunteer groups.
Provide groups with task lists, adjusting tasks as needed throughout the ninety-day resettlement
period for each refugee family.
Check in with volunteers to assess progress.
Present at local synagogues, churches, schools, and other community centers to share
information and attract new volunteers.
Conduct exit assessments with volunteers after each ninety-day period with a refugee client.
Meet donors at storage unit and Concord office for in-kind donation drop offs.
Assist with coordination of in-kind donations program, including screening items, managing
logistics, and tracking.
Provide coverage for other Volunteer Services programs when other team members are
unavailable
Assist with training and onboarding new volunteers in other programs.
Assist the Volunteer Services Manager with other tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree preferred and at least 1 year of related experience in nonprofit or social
service agencies.
A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion; valuing a diversity of perspectives and
encouraging contributions by all team members.
Strong organizational abilities, and ability to keep updated, well-organized tracking system and
files.
Experience with tracking and reporting data.
Initiative and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Able and willing to drive clients on occasion and make home visits.
Well-developed verbal and written skills.
Ability to work with computers.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Commitment to agency mission of promoting and strengthening the social and emotional well-
being of diverse individuals and families throughout the East Bay.
High degree of cultural competence and sensitivity.
Clean DMV record, current California driver’s license, and car required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary is $23 per hour. Generous benefit package includes: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance,
