Kāpiti Coast District Council Looking for Public Spaces and Animal Management Officer at Paraparaumu, Wellington Full Time

About the role

We are looking for an experienced customer-focused individual wanting to move into the compliance and monitoring field. As a Public Spaces and Animal Management Officer you will provide essential support and undertake duties that ensure our communities are safe and healthy places for everyone. The varied services provided by the Public Spaces and Animal Management team includes the management of certain animals, with a predominant demand managing the licensing and control of dogs within the Kāpiti Coast district. The role includes proactively monitoring and ensuring compliance with relevant bylaws, policies and local restrictions in relation to stationary vehicles, freedom camping and other activities on our beaches and parks. As a PSAM Officer you will effectively respond to and manage customers’ service requests related to relevant activities. The team works on a roster basis and provides a service from 7am – 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am – 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The role requires the staff member to work on an on-call after hours roster.

Skills and Experience

• Experience in a similar environment with an ability to safely and effectively manage conflict and use problem solving methodology.
• Demonstrated investigative capability or the ability and willingness to learn.
• A sound knowledge of the Dog Control Act 1996 and other relevant legislation or demonstrated ability to be able to learn, understand and apply legislation.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to keep up to date with the relevant legislation, Council bylaws and policies
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to customer service and demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of people within and outside the organisation.
• Ability to perform tasks of a physical nature to ensure safe performance of the range of duties.
• Demonstrated excellent communication skills both oral and written with outstanding phone manners and report writing skills.
• Demonstrated competence in general computer use and ability to adapt to changes.
• Holder of a current and valid full NZ Drivers’ licence.
