FULL TIME – Summary:
The District Sales Manager is a senior-level management position which is accountable for achieving or exceeding multi-million-dollar sales and operational objectives in a designated district. Develop and communicate business objectives. Manage and monitor business results. Select, coach, develop, and manage key staff. Embrace and lead change.
Primary Responsibilities:
-Manage a district of sales and operations professionals to achieve business objectives including revenue, gross margin, controllable expenses, profit, customer retention, new account growth, and business development.
-Supervise sales representatives and/or business development managers. Ensure that direct reports receive specific, timely feedback and coaching focused on developing skills and improving business results.
-Devote significant time and resources to understanding customer requirements in each segment within the district. Advocate for the customer on product availability, application, and performance issues.
-Develop and execute business plans to achieve business objectives and win growth and market share from targeted competitors.
-Apply knowledge of customers and trends in the market to promote revenue growth and account development in the district.
-Ensure that district employees meet company standards for management practices, sales practices, customer dispute resolution, merchandising, employee safety, and regulatory compliance.
-Assume a leadership role on a cross-functional divisional team, using team skills of negotiation, consultation, collaboration, and cooperation.
-Promote a positive, ethical, professional, and customer-oriented company image.
-Assist in the retention of key employees and the attraction of new employees. Includes making decisions in regard to hiring and terminating employees.
-Mentor and develop key employees.
Other Requirements:
-Ability to solve problems using relevant facts and sound judgement.
-Ability to acquire and assemble relevant information, prioritize, and make decisions under time pressure.
-Ability to translate insight about the customer to compelling business plans.
-Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with customers, employees, and peer managers.
-Ability to use a computer for various business applications including Salesforce.com and MS Office.
-Ability to prepare, organize, analyze and review numeric and non-numeric records and data in digital and print formats.
-Ability to communicate effectively in English orally, in writing, and in presentations to internal and external audiences. Fluency in one other language is preferred.
-Ability to travel up to fifty percent of the time, including some overnight travel, and operation of a motor vehicle.
-Ability to operate a motor vehicle and meet the requirements of the company’s Employee Driving Agreement.
Qualifications:
-A track record of ethical behavior and integrity.
-Relevant professional experience in sales and knowledge of best practices in sales.
-Relevant professional experience in the paint and/or coatings industry, construction, home improvement, durable goods, multi-location retail, and/or wholesale.
-At least five years of management-level experience in sales or operations with accountability for resources (people and budgets).
-Well-developed supervisory, delegation, and coaching skills.
-Well-developed analytical, organizational, time management, and decision-making skills.
-Excellent communication skills, including oral and written comprehension and expression, superior listening skills, and presentation skills.
-Financial skills sufficient to understand profit and loss, develop budgets, and understand operating statements.
-Business, marketing, or technical degree.
