Senior Project Finance Partner

Due to substantial government backing KiwiRail is undertaking a generational investment programme to upgrade our fleet, our rail networks and our plant and facilities. With a multi-billion project portfolio, we are seeking a Senior Project Finance Partner to join our commercially focused finance team and make their mark on New Zealand’s rail infrastructure.

The Role:

This role will see you take the commercial performance and reporting of a multi-project programme to the next level. You will be a key member of the Capital Projects & Asset Development finance team and the primary finance partner to the Programme Director with exposure to the Project Governance Board.

You will be someone looking to make their mark by improving processes and enhancing project reporting, using your experience with data automation and modelling skills to highlight project performance. You will be comfortable working in an infrastructure/construction environment with multiple reporting stakeholders and have a strong understanding of key drivers in a project environment.

This role reports to the Programme Commercial Manager and has one direct report.

The role is a combination of financial project accounting, reporting, cost controlling and delivery of accurate forecasts and budgets that ensure project financial performance is visible. Your strengths also lie in identifying and raising financial risks, reporting trends, and providing sound commentary of actual and forecasted performance. The role will be responsible for presenting the monthly financial performance at the Project Governance Board meetings.

Your Skills:

You will have a Chartered Accountant or equivalent qualification with significant post-graduate experience – ideally with some infrastructure or construction understanding. You will have proficiency in Excel and SAP (or similar ERP tool) and proven ability in visualising and communicating the full picture of a project (revenue, cost, margin, risks). Experience with PowerBI, data automation and creating financial models is desirable. Building strong relationships with a Project Management team and the wider business, including senior leaders, is something that comes naturally to you and forms an integral part of your ability to achieve results.
