Job Summary:
The role of the Laraway School Director is to serve as the chief administrator of the school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational and mental health development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.
Essential Duties:
· Conceptualizes the broad goals of the school and plans accordingly to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total school program.
· Ensures that the school program is compatible with the legal, financial and organizational structure of an approved independent school and day treatment program.
· Defines the responsibilities and accountability of staff members and develops plans for interpreting the school program to the community.
· Facilitate the professional growth of the school staff and enhance the quality of the instructional and therapeutic program.
· Identifies the annual objectives for the instructional and therapeutic programs for the school.
· Engages and involves staff in the development of specific curricular and therapeutic objectives to meet the needs of the school program.
· Assure that all staff receives appropriate supervision, support and training.
· Maintains inter-agency communication and seeks guidance from Executive staff on overall program development and enhancement.
· Maintains positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, staff and community partners.
· Facilitates intake and orientation of student referrals and new hires.
· Encourages the use of community resources, cooperates with the community in the use of school facilities, interprets the school program for the community, and maintains communication with community members.
· Maintain community presence, representing the school and agency as appropriate.
· Active member of the Agency Wide Management Team and engages in committees as appropriate. Work in collaboration with members of leadership to promote, support and pursue opportunities for the school and agency.
Academic, Therapeutic, and Behavior Services:
· Strive at all times to foster a positive approach to problem solving and maintain a positive environment.
· Model and utilize best practices in education and special education when working one-on-one or in small groups.
· Develop and maintain trauma informed best practices.
The position requires using therapeutic communication, experiential learning and strength based strategies to provide opportunities for youth to make positive choices, gain self-confidence, advance their academic skills and learn skills critical to their lifelong development. A strong sense of professionalism is required. The person shall present themselves as a strong role model for children and adolescents and demonstrate management and supervision of students in accordance with program policies, philosophies and mission. Must maintain confidentiality and privacy of those seeking services, with peers, on and off site, and in all forms of communication.
