Position Description
Definition
The incumbent creates, maintains, and manages content for LVMPD’s digital recruiting communications efforts (internet, intranet social media platforms, and traditional media outlets) to serve the following primary purposes: maintain or enhance the Department’s image throughout all areas of the community, including the news media, engage effectively with the public through social media and in person, and work with all members of the Department to develop a basic understanding of the job duties so this information can be portrayed on social media for recruiting. Incumbent also develops and manages effective online advertising strategies and acts as a civilian recruiter during virtual and in-person job fairs.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is appointed by the Sheriff and is not subject to the competitive requirements of the Civil Service Rules of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Minimum Qualifications/Position-Specific Conditions

Best Candidates Will

• Have at least two years of digital communications experience maintaining the website of a sizable public or private organization involving the application of SharePoint, Adobe, Photoshop, and/or similar software.
• Have at least two years of experience using various social media platforms of a sizable public or private organization.
• Have the ability to analyze data returns from social media to determine appropriate targeting.
• Have at least a bachelor’s degree in web design, public administration, public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, or a related field.
• Have a working knowledge and understanding of government and law enforcement and understand how to utilize various communication platforms, including social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok).
• Be able to work on highly sensitive and confidential material with discretion.
• Have a polished, articulate, and clear communications style.
• Exemplify the Department’s values of integrity, courage, accountability, respect and excellence.

Conditions of Employment
In addition to the General Conditions of Employment found here, the following specific conditions of employment apply to this position:

• Work any hours, days, or shifts, including holidays and weekends.
• Personal Appearance: While on duty, and/or representing the Department, uniformed or otherwise, all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles or jewelry on or through the nose, tongue, eyebrow or other exposed body part, except the ears for females, while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or “gauging” their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing, and may not be covered by make-up or bandages. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
• Maintain an appropriate Nevada driver’s license.
• Adjust shift hours at short notice, if operationally necessary.

Selection Process
Once all applications and resumes have been screened, the top group most suited for this position will be required to submit two work samples. Samples include social media advertisements such as posts, videos, or printed marketing advertisements.

Top applicants based on the application, resume, and work product review will be invited to participate in the next phase of the selection process which will include an interview, at a minimum. The dates and times of appointments will be announced after the closing date of this job announcement.

Additional Selection Processes
If you are selected for this position, you will undergo a thorough background investigation. The background investigation takes approximately 90 to 120 days to complete. You must also meet the LVMPD Hiring Standards. LVMPD employees participate in the Department’s random drug screening process.
