Overview
The Recording Department is a vital part of the Clerk’s office responsible for maintaining the official records of the County. This department also processes marriage licenses and passport applications as well as records and maintains a permanent copy of all deeds, death certificates, judgements, lis pendens, notices of commencements, mortgages, liens, and marriage certificates to name a few.

Position Function
This position is responsible for performing entry level tasks to achieve desired business objectives of the Recording Office. The Recording Clerk is responsible for efficiently and effectively processing common documents presented for recording into the Official Records. All functions are performed in accordance with the Recording Office policies, procedures, and guidelines with ample direction and/or supervision.
- Maintain responsibility for ensuring customer service is a high priority and that customers are treated courteously
- Handle payments accurately and securely
- Accurately balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift
- Accurately and timely receive and process common documents types brought or sent to the Recording office
- Become a Notary Public of the State of Florida
- Maintain knowledge of duties and requirements to ensure compliance with the Notary Laws of the State of Florida
- Observe Marriage Ceremonies being performed (20)
- Observe functionality performed in all areas of Recording Office
- Become familiar with Florida Statutes; Recording Policies, Guidelines and Procedures; and Best Practices
- Learn Recording and Passport Fees and document types
- Complete the Mail run by retrieving mail, sorting and distributing mail as assigned
- Learn to operate ScanPro and microfilm
- Exposure to redaction requirements on a recorded document
- Navigate Intranet, LeeClerk.org and Kiosk station
- Meet expected performance measures accurately and timely
- Other duties and/or special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Education, Experience & Certification(s)
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Two years of clerical experience or any combination education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties
- Two years customer service experience required
- Two years cash handling experience required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Accurate keyboarding and data entry skills required
- Accurate sequential filing skills required
- Proficiency in business English and business math required
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail required
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Effective interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and professional demeanor are required
- Use tact in sensitive situations, maintain confidentiality of restricted files, and maintain a courteous attitude toward the public at all times
- Demonstrate proficiency with operations and general care of the PC and printers required
- Ability to work independently and handle routine items without supervision
- Ability to work extended hours

Physical Requirements
- Office: Majority of the time is spent sitting at the computer, remainder of the time is spent assisting in other functions
- This position requires clear verbal interaction with employees, the public and agencies
- This position may require bending and reaching
- This position may require going to other departments and/or offices on different floors and/or buildings throughout the day
- This position may require occasional travel to other sites to review products, or attend meetings, seminars or classes
- Ability to use standard office equipment
