Position: Zookeeper

Position Details: Full time (non-seasonal), up to $25/hour + benefits.

Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated individual to maintain the highest standards of animal care, enrichment, and training while also interacting with the public to create a safe and engaging experience. Position includes caring for Sloths, Kangaroos, Capybaras as well as other domesticated and exotic species. Lewis Farms is a Species 360 Member!

Position Requirements:

-Two or more year related degree AND two years’ paid experience in an animal related field. Exotic animal experience is a plus.

-Excellent communication, judgment and record keeping skills.

-Ability to work varied hours (e.g. days, nights, holidays, weekends and emergencies) as directed by business needs.

-Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask.

Position Responsibilities:

-Daily cleaning, feeding and caring for the animals.

-Oversee safe, proper, and humane protocols for all aspects of the animals including sanitation, health, nutrition, reproduction, behavior and exhibits.

-Lead in the development and review of policies concerning animal care and management.

-Maintain a records system that documents animal care and inventory through Species 360

-Ensure compliance with USDA.

-Direct public tour schedule and deliver engaging, enthusiastic and educational presentation to guests.

Other Duties and Responsibilities Include:

-Complying with all Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo policies and procedures.

-Relating positively with diverse group of people (guests, staff and volunteers).

-Providing assistance to co-workers, zoo attendants, interns and volunteers.

-Assisting with veterinary procedures as needed.

-Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of exhibits, guests viewing areas and animal holding areas.

-Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions in a physically demanding environment.
