JOB DESCRIPTION
The duties of the post are to give the Local Authority under the direction and supervision of its appropriate employee such services of an executive, supervisory or advisory nature as are required for the exercise and performance of any of its powers and duties and include such duties as may be required in relation to the area of any other Local Authority.
REPORTING TO : Senior Staff Officer or more Senior Grades
REPORTING TO JOB HOLDER: Supervisory Role. Clerical Officers and Assistant Staff Officers.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB: To organise and supervise the activities of a section to ensure they are carried out in a timely and efficient manner.
MAIN ACTIVITIES/TASKS:
1. Supervising staff with regard to punctuality, attendance and work
performance.
2. Briefing and training staff in the work activities of the section.
3. Ensuring that appropriate procedures, schemes and policies of the Council
are implemented in relation to the activities of the section.
4. Assuming responsibility within clearly defined policy for most of the day
to day decisions in the section on eligibility or entitlement to services.
5. Communicating with members of the public on non-routine matters.
6. Servicing meetings of the Council and its committees, when necessary.
7. Attending and contributing to internal meetings and also meetings with
other organisations.
8. Attending court as a witness for the Council as required.
9. Reviewing administrative procedures within the section as necessary with
a view to improvement.
10. Liaising with other sections or departments of the Council.
11. Carrying out work of a Clerical/Administrative nature involving nonroutine
and challenging tasks/responsibilities.
12. Acting as a resource for the Council in your area of expertise.
These tasks which are indicative rather than exhaustive are carried out under general supervision.
