AIR6500 is a focussed LMA investment activity that includes exploring advanced web-based technologies for a Joint Air Battle Management System (JABMS) – A system that will interconnect the defence platforms, systems sensors and effectors across the war fighting domains, land, air, sea, space and cyber.

As part of an Agile Scrum team and responding to the AIR6500 M&S IPT Lead, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of features focusing on front-end elements, with technical ownership of designated software features. Also as the Modelling and Simulation (M&S) IPT you will develop and integrate tools for synthetic environment orchestration.

About the Program

AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a Joint Air Battle Management System that maximises the sensor capabilities offered by 5th Gen systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

• Working with customers to identify, analyse, select and apply concepts, technologies and techniques
• Lead the agile development of complex technical solutions
• Developing software requirements, design and test rationale
• Integration and testing of products
• Resolution of problems identified during the conduct of software development

You are an experienced software engineer ready to tackle your next big challenge and utilise your previous Software experience, and drive industry best practice in a fast paced and dynamic environment. Ideally you will hold a tertiary qualification in a related discipline from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent suitable experience (preferably within the defence industry).

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Extensive knowledge of the Software Engineering process
• Solid understanding of the overall engineering product lifecycle
• Proven experience in software engineering methodologies and techniques preferably in a web-based development domain

• Experience in Go, Typescript, Python, Java, C++ and web development toolsets

• Excellent complex problem solving ability
• Software development experience on Linux platforms

Ideally you will also have Agile software development and team leading experience, as well as prior experience with Cloud Orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).

Applicants are required to be Australian Citizens and ideally hold a current or reinstatable NV1 Defence Security Clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain clearance to NV1 level.
