STELaRLab is a purely R&D dedicated laboratory – Lockheed Martin’s first multi-disciplinary research lab to be setup outside of the US. STELaRLab conducts research in several key areas, including artificial intelligence and multidomain operations, delivering exciting outcomes advancing Australian capability.

Agile Shield is STELaRLab’s answer to the Counter Improvised Threat Grand Challenge (CIT-GC). Our objective is to demonstrate an integrated system detecting and neutralising improvised threats within a complex battlespace. Starting with Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) our Lab will develop this significant capability for Australia, with our sights set to counter an entire spectrum of improvised threats.

The Senior Software Engineer is tasked with the design, development, capture, test, and debug of software. The role will have you draw on logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems executed in a variety of computer languages and data processing equipment.

In performing this role, you will be required to actively lead the agile development of complex technical solutions proposed by yourself and team subject matter experts, including the development of software, algorithm and system integration requirements, design and test rationale, including the implementation of code and unit test whilst overcoming project technical issues within an agile team environment.

During this phase of Agile Shield, the system will be transitioned to live trials where the virtual will become reality.

Skills and experience we will be looking for:

• Relevant technologies and domains.
• Object oriented design and development methodologies on complex modern software-intensive systems using a documented process.
• Software/systems engineering lifecycle, methods, tools and techniques.
• Engineering management, risk mitigation and business improvement methodologies.
• Python, JavaScript and Java.

Other desirable skills:

• Simulation and trial software development, including computational simulations of defence capabilities.
• Developing and integrating User Interfaces.
• Automating processes for building, configuring, releasing and deploying software systems.
• Software containers (such as Docker).
• Development of mission systems.
• Professional attitude with a strong customer focus.

Applications must be eligible to hold and maintain a CoA NV1 security clearance.
