Responding to the AIR6500 Enabling Infrastructure IPT Lead, and as part of an Agile Scrum team, this role will have you undertaking activities with customers and the team; you will be responsible for the development and delivery of features focusing on front-end and back-end elements, including technical ownership of designated software features. Identifying, analysing, selecting and applying concepts, technologies and techniques that are applicable to the technical development of software products.

About the program

AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

We are pleased to take applications to join our team as a Software Engineer – Enabling Infrastructure IPT, to be an integral AIR6500 team member.

• Actively lead the development of complex technical solutions proposed by yourself and team SME’s
• Drive an industry best practice approach in a microservices based architecture
• Manage the technical relationship with sub-contractors
• Development of software requirements, design and test rationale and the implementation of code and unit test
• Establishment of tools and processes for rapidly deploying federated updates and new capabilities into Joint Air Battlespace Management System
• Problem resolution during the conduct of software development
• Integration and test of your products

With proven experience in a similar role within a defence environment, you will be a strong team player who also enjoys developing and mentoring junior staff You will also ideally hold a qualification from an accredited tertiary institution in a related discipline, or equivalent experience / combined education.
To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Extensive knowledge of the Software Engineering process, procedures and the overall engineering product lifecycle
• Advanced experience leading and/or managing multiple small teams to successful system outcomes
• Excellent complex problem solving ability
• Knowledge in Linux security / SELinux
• Extensive knowledge on container orchestration system(s)
• Experience in designing, developing and testing infrastructure as code
• Demonstrated experience developing / troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines

Ansible, Chef or other Configuration Management Tool experience is also highly desirable.

Applicants are required to be Australian Citizens and hold a current or re-instatable NV1 Defence Security Clearance.
