About The Role
Hounslow Adult and Community Education (known as Learn Hounslow) delivers the council’s Adult Education Budget allocation, which funds a range of learning opportunities to help adults develop their knowledge, skills and confidence so they can re-skill, up-skill, move into work, improve their prospects and support their families. We are currently seeking to appoint a full-time permanent Creative Craft Education Technician to join our service, with the knowledge and skills to provide technical support for creative courses in subjects such as Pottery, Art, Craft, Textiles and Cookery.
To support the Adult and Community Education Service with its operational and technical needs in its provision of its art, creative craft and general curriculums. To maintain the classrooms and studios within the department, including the procurement of resources and ensure a safe learning environment is maintained at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Operate, load/unload kilns, prepare/reclaim clay, organise student work, mix slips and glazes and do other studio tasks such as deep clean/wash resources.
2.Check stock levels of resources, maintain resources and equipment and order materials and resources in a timely way
3.Ensure that all classrooms, studios, training kitchen and storerooms are maintained at a level compliant with the Health & Safety at Work Act.
4.Support in classrooms with the use of specialist equipment, providing support and guidance to learners where required; provide technical advice and assistance to tutors and learners.
Your Skills:
1.You have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, enabling you to communicate effectively with a range of people, from learners, managers, tutors, support workers and staff both in person and using digital technology.
2.You have technical knowledge of resources and materials in at least one creative area.
3.You are well-organised and systematic. You can anticipate needs for materials and resources and meet them in a timely manner, using the ICT systems of the service.
4.You know what constitutes good customer service in an adult and community education environment in a multi-cultural urban community.
1. English and maths at Level 2 (GCSE grades 9-4 or equivalent).
2. Relevant subject area (art, design, craft, technician etc.) at Level 3 or equivalent.
3. DBS check is required – Enhanced 3 years with Adults and Children’s barred list
