Prevent is part of CONTEST, the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy. The purpose of Prevent is at its heart to safeguard and support vulnerable people to stop them from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. The objectives of Prevent are to:

• Tackle the causes of radicalisation and respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism.
• Safeguard and support those most at risk of radicalisation through early intervention, identifying them and offering support.
• Enable those who have already engaged in terrorism to disengage and rehabilitate.

The education sector is a vital component of this activity and has a key role to play in the successful delivery of Prevent objectives.

This is a high-profile role responsible for supporting schools, and education staff within Redbridge to deliver Prevent activity to increase young people’s resilience to terrorism.

The Prevent Education Officer will be responsible for:

• Leading on engagement with schools & other institutions in Redbridge
• Identifying vulnerabilities and risk
• Delivering training and capacity building
• Building and maintaining a network of contacts within the local region to advance Prevent activity.

In addition, the Prevent Education Officer will be required to lead on the management of Prevent projects being delivered in support of the programme.

We are looking for a highly skilled professional who has:

• An enthusiastic, creative and innovative approach
• Excellent communication skills
• A recognised teaching qualification
• Significant previous teaching experience in the education sector, preferably at secondary level
• Experience of partnership working and community engagement
• Experience of project management
• Good political awareness.

This is a short-term contract (to 31st March 2023); however, it is anticipated will be extended, on an annual basis, dependent on ongoing Home Office funding.
