Job Duties/Responsibilities The Administrative Assistant performs a variety of staff duties to relieve
an administrator of details relative to clerical procedures
and methods, budget preparation and control, or other areas of the
business operations of the organizational unit. Types of job duties
include (but are not limited to) the following:
supporting data, maintains controls on expenditure accounts, and
recommends or initiates adjustments in accounts.
personal and telephone contacts and meetings.
equipment and expenditures.
agencies.
procedures, including the preparation of instructions, dissemination of
information, and functional supervision of the implementation of the
procedures.
office records, and related matters in order to advise administrative
personnel maintains progress.

Minimum Requirements PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED. You must be a current or
retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the
Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or
have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent
LAUSD position in which you passed probation.
Laid-off employees’ eligibility as a promotional candidate expires at the
end of their 39 month period; as such, laid-off employees applying for
promotional career opportunities may not be eligible to complete the
assessment process or may be removed from the employment eligibility
list once their eligibility as a promotional candidate expires.
Education:
Graduation from a recognized college or university, preferably with a
major in business or public administration. Additional experience in office
management or analysis of procedures or financial data may be
substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience:
Four years of clerical experience including the compilation of data and
implementation of procedures.
OR
Two years as a staff assistant in a position requiring the maintenance of
complex procedures involving the reporting of data.
OR
One year of technical or administrative experience in collecting,
analyzing, and reporting data or in the preparation, analysis, or
adjustment of budgets.
Desirable Qualifications The ideal candidate for Administrative Assistant shows a high level of
care, organization, and thoroughness in handling the details of the
position. This individual can produce accurate information under
distracting working conditions and manage a high workload under
general supervision. The ideal candidate possesses strong attention to
detail, fact finding skills, and has the flexibility to handle the constant
change of assignments and responsibilities. The individual is also able to
articulate information in a coherent, educated manner both orally and in
written documents. The Administrative Assistant will be the primary
contact person among several departments must be a dependable team
player. Furthermore, he/she demonstrates superior customer service
skills and an ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with vendors as well as school and district personnel.

assessment plan for this position may consist of a multiple-choice exam
and an Interview.
