The Vascular Access Program Manager will play a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of a comprehensive program focused on nursing PIV (peripheral IV line) skills, pain management during IV insertion, and the enhancement of vascular access services. This role is responsible for developing quality metrics, overseeing projects, conducting research to improve program integrity, engagement, and effectiveness, and collaborating with various departments to optimize patient care. The Vascular Access Program Manager will work closely with the VAD Nursing Professional Development Specialist and the Stanford Children’s Systems Level Clinical Nurse Specialist to implement training and education initiatives supporting this program.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
Develop protocols and procedures for PIV nursing skills, including bedside staff, US PIV skills, and pain management strategies for PIV insertion and PICC placement.
Coordinate with other hospital departments and teams (e.g., Interventional Radiology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology) to optimize patient care and enhance vascular access services.
Assign VAD champions on each unit to align with unit super users, creating a more robust vascular access structure by developing the team and ensuring ongoing competencies.
Conduct regular rounds on units to provide support to nursing champions, patients, and families, and collaborate with provider and care team members.
Collect and analyze data to determine success metrics, assess outcomes, and identify opportunities for quality improvement, with a focus on Infection Control (CLABSI prevention) and PIVIE quality improvement work.
Lead research initiatives specific to vascular access, with the goal of achieving pain-free and successful IV placement on the first attempt to distinguish [Hospital Name] from other hospitals. Foster innovation and research at the program level.
Ensure that the Vascular Access Program remains at or ahead of industry standards regarding technology, tools, techniques, and training.
Support ongoing education and training related to PIV nursing skills and pain management during insertion.
Collaborate with the Family Advisory group to develop patient education materials that enhance patient comfort and success rates.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university
Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a vascular access nurse or related experience.
License/Certification: RN – Valid California license to practice as a Registered Nurse. Certification in Vascular Access

Develop, in collaboration with Nurse Management, policies and procedures that overlap with program function.
Ability to understand customer satisfaction concepts, identify internal, external, and partner-provider customers, and address their needs and concerns.
Effective problem-solving skills.
Experience and familiarity with computerized systems and software, with a willingness to continually develop computer and systems skills.
Knowledge of Title XXII and JCAHO standards.
Positive human relations skills to interface effectively with diverse groups of staff, physicians, and peers.
Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job.

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $149,552.00 to $187,574.40
