The Role
The Lead Product Owner is the member of the team responsible for identifying and defining Features that need to be supported by one or more Agile Scrum teams. Further, the Lead Product Owner collaborates with the Product Manager and other Product Owners to help prioritize and plan to deliver maximum business value. The Lead Product Owner is expected to be a beacon of functional domain knowledge for the team and support conceptual solutioning of the Capabilities and Features that becomes an input to the Planning and Execution activities.
The Main Responsibilities
The Lead Product Owner has the following responsibilities in addition to the responsibilities stated for a Product Owner.
Understands complex distributed systems and how they support business processes.
Ability to solve complex analytical challenges, independently analyze information and make recommendations based on analysis.
Works collaboratively with other members of the organization to facilitate, explore, and decide upon solution alternatives to business problems and examines the cost/benefit analyses of design alternatives while considering the long-term roadmap
Works closely with business partners and technical staff to create technical solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
Able to influence the work of others in order to drive medium & large projects to successful completion through effective collaboration, customer interaction, and IT coordination
Works in relevant structures (e.g. PI planning, Sprint planning, Scrum of Scrums) to manage dependencies and set priorities across multiple teams and Backlog items and to maintain alignment to the Product Vision and Release roadmap
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Excellent negotiating and persuasive skills.
Coaching and leading other team members in similar or related roles
Ability to motivate others, use good teamwork skills, including development of interdepartmental relationships and the ability to make complex decisions.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Understands the needs of internal IT development and operations communities (as one type of customer) and demonstrates aptitude in offering and facilitating solutions that will improve and accelerate their software development lifecycle maturity and quality.
Able to work with software tool vendors and help facilitate the integration of new tools and capabilities into existing platforms and the software delivery pipeline.
Knowledgeable in the concept of ‘APIs as Products’, and comfortable in acting as a change champion to further its adoption among both business units and the IT organization.
Experienced in user experience (UX) research, analysis and customer insights.
Knowledgeable in API and microservices tools and technologies, including both on-prem and cloud native toolsets.
Understands the needs of the API consumer community (both internal and external) and offer solutions that increases discovery, adoption and usage of Lumen API products and services.
Experience in working with distributed teams and can accommodate scheduling flexibility to support the needs of team members located in all 4 continental U.S. time zones as well as Europe and India.
Comfortable with the ambiguities and uncertainties that arise in the early storming and forming phases of new, large initiative programs – and be exceptional in helping teams move from strategic plans to tactical implementation.
Excellent communication, presentation and team facilitation skills.
Team leader that can cast vision, illustrate tactics/strategy, and hold team members accountable.
