M13 Hiring for M13: Data Coordinator (Contract) at Los Angeles, CA Full Time

M13 is seeking a part-time data coordinator contractor. We are looking for candidates who are incredibly detail-oriented and can work both independently and collaboratively with a team. This role is ideal for candidates who are interested in consulting, analytics, and finance-related roles because the candidates will learn more about how VCs screen investment opportunities and how startups present themselves to potential investors.

This contract position will run for a minimum of twelve months, with potential for 24+ months. It can be fully remote or be based in NYC. This position will be 40 hours per week during the summer and a minimum of 15 hours per week outside of the summer period. Working hours are flexible.

Who you are:

• You are highly motivated, proactive, and extremely detail-oriented
• You have personal integrity, initiative, strong communication and time management skills
• You have an analytical mindset, enjoy research projects, and are technologically proficient with Excel or Google Sheets (vlookups, index-match, filters)SQL experience is a plus
• You deeply understand common company operational metrics (e.g. LTV: CAC, retention rate, revenue growth, etc.), their relationship to each other, and their relevance to overall company performance
• You understand common company financial metrics (e.g. revenue, operating income, expenses, etc.)
• You are able to research unfamiliar metrics or concepts and contextualize them quickly
• You have an uncompromising ability to maintain strict confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and the highest level of discretion in handling sensitive information

What you’ll be doing:

• Help with a major data collection project by:
• Reviewing inbound pitch decks from startups and “scrape” all relevant performance metrics into a standardized template
• Cross-referencing external data sources to infer startups’ firmographic information and operating stage (e.g. pre-launch, post-launch, acquired, etc.)
• Taxonomizing companies based on elements of their business model (e.g. target market, sector, monetization model, etc.)Develop standard operating procedures
• Aiding the Data team with ad hoc benchmark and analysis requests using the data collected in the standardized template
