Role Summary

The Maintenance Janitor is responsible for performing cleaning and other facilities tasks as scheduled and as required. The role also involves maintaining janitorial equipment and inventories.

Key Responsibilities

Sweep, mop or vacuum, offices, cafeterias and washroom areas (production and non production areas).

Empty trashcans and other waste containers in office / plant.

Keeps janitorial equipment in working order, such as changing mop heads, buckets rinsed and cleaned daily, cleaning supplies available.

Collects and disposes of garbage, including recyclable materials. Ensures containers are emptied in a timely manner and garbage/recyclable is sorted into appropriate inside and outside bins.

Responsible for the proper handling, storage and disposal of all job related chemicals, used materials and equipment.

Completes daily disinfectant cleaning of all plant washrooms and the plant lunchroom.

Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk, salting and sanding as required.

Fill towel and paper dispensers, eyeglass wash stations, paper cups

Additonal Duties

Clean washrooms, locker areas and lunchroom.

May be assigned to production as a Secondary Operator if slow down in area or as necessary.

Keeps inventory of cleaning supplies, paper towel, bathroom paper, etc., advising purchasing department when supplies are low.

Ensures work area is kept clean, tidy and safe at all times.

Reports all incidents or accidents that may cause damage or injury.

Observes all Federal/Provincial Regulations including standards for safe working conditions as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act as well as Policies and Procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Participates in Continuous Improvement / Suggestion Programs.

Perform other assignments as requested by management from time to time as well as making Supervisor/Designee aware of problems/slowdown in work area so can be assigned further duties.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Familiar with cleaning equipment (vacuums, floor cleaners, carpet cleaners, etc.)

Completion of secondary school, GED or equivalent

Good command of the English language both verbal, written.

Capable of keeping FIFO records for related product.

Familiar with WHMIS and related safety hazards regarding cleaning tools and chemicals
