Massachusetts Institute of Technology Looking for Software Developer 1 at Cambridge, MA Full Time

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER 1, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) , to build and maintain software used in scientific research, in particular, MDSplus and its academic and commercial users around the globe. This software is used to acquire and store data from scientific experiments and enable researchers to query it in many languages. The team solves the challenging problems of collecting and maintaining data over years to enable its users to progress their research. The work is disseminated through participation in academic workshops and conferences as well as publications. Will act as a core team member and contribute to most or all of its ongoing projects. This will involve using GitHub to track issues and submit pull requests, working with users to find solutions to their problems, local system administration, developing codes to interact with new scientific hardware, and much more. Will be cross-trained to cover other group member’s areas of expertise.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : bachelor’s degree in computer science; three years’ relevant experience; experience with programming in C/C++ or other compiled language, Python or other scripted language, CMake or other build systems, and Git + GitHub or other source control management (SCM); Linux, OSX, or Windows experience; familiarity with/willingness to learn/support a variety of software, including Fortran, IDL, MATLAB, Julia, LabView, etc.; experience with debugging and/or profiling code, code coverage tools and concepts, computer networking concepts and implementations, web technologies, documentation tools and concepts, software packaging and distribution, software testing frameworks and writing unit/regression tests, and CI/CD concepts and implementations; flexibility; and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
