Hi. My name is Matt. I am in the process of preparing my home for sale. It’s in the Hollywood Hills West area of Los Angeles. There are a lot of repairs and upgrades I need to complete before I put it on the market.
I am doing a lot of the projects on a DIY basis with help from a few other assistants I have hired. There are, however, several projects for which I will have to hire an outside contractor.
The job I am posting here is, at its most basic, scheduling appointments for outside contractors to come to the house in order to submit bids for the project they would be hired for. It will also involve communicating with the contractors after the initial meeting to ask and answer follow-up questions. Since these tasks do not require the person’s presence at the house, the job can be done remotely.
The job requires good organizational skills to keep track of the appointments. It also requires good written communication skills, since the person will be required to keep a written log of all actions taken with respect to every contractor, including the substance of any communications with the contractor, and email it to me on a daily basis.
Additionally, it is a requirement of the job that the applicant have some prior experience dealing with home improvement contractors, preferably in the Los Angeles area.
It is intended that the compensation will be a flat weekly amount, in the neighborhood of $300/week.
Depending on the applicant’s abilities and experience, the job may also include:
~assisting in the research of the contractors (reviews, etc.) to determine which contractors to request a bid from;
~assisting in researching what is involved in any given project to determine the relevant questions to ask the contractor ( e.g., is it okay to apply tile flooring directly on wooden subflooring or is an intermediate substance required);
~providing useful input to determine which contractor is ultimately chosen for the job. This could involve participating in the meetings with the contractors;
~giving valuable input from an aesthetic standpoint regarding which materials to be used in an upgrade (e.g., bathroom tiles, living room flooring).
The person might also be asked on occasion to substitute for my assistant who runs routine errands. This would only be applicable if the person has a car (not a requirement for the job otherwise).
To the extent any of these additional activities are included in the job, the compensation will be appropriately increased. This would not apply if the additional activities can be done remotely and are requested only on an occasional basis. If any additional activity involves the person’s presence at the house or running errands, it will be compensated on an hourly basis and paid in addition to the weekly compensation. The hourly rate will be between $20 and $25 per hour.
