The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates for Airport Escort position. This position staff’s security access points to the Airport Operations Area (AOA); inspects all vehicles entering the AOA for explosive devices. Conducts random security searches and identification inspections. Escorts construction, inspection and related contractor personnel to construction sites and escorts emergency vehicles within the security areas of McCarran International Airport, including taxiways and runways; performs support work in addition to escort duties.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or be extended as needed by the office of Airport Experience and Employee Services.

Requirements
Equivalent to graduation from high school and six months of full-time work experience, which has included contact with the public. Must successfully complete a specialized Airport Operations Area Driver Training Course during probationary/qualifying period. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Licensing and Certification: Possess a valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of hire.
Working Conditions: Work scheduled off-hours shifts. Work out of doors in all weather conditions. Work in proximity to potentially hazardous construction sites.
Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
Residency Requirement: Permanent employees Nevada must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers’ license laws within 90 days of employment.
Background Check: Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration. Note: all prospective hires must present two original government issued ID’s upon acceptance of job offer. Examples of acceptable ID’s include a Passport, Driver’s License or DMV issued ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, Voter Registration card, school issued ID with picture, etc.
Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program: Employment with the Department of Aviation in this job title is contingent upon a five year employment and residency history record check and the ability to present original identity based documentation in order to meet the requirements for a Security Seal.
Physical Demands
Mobility to work in an office, stores or construction setting, use standard office equipment and drive a vehicle to perform escort and delivery duties; strength to lift materials and supplies weighing to 50 pounds; ability to stand for long periods of time; agility to climb in and out of large trucks to inspect cargo; vision to read printed materials and to drive in evening and night light conditions; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, on the radio or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
Examples of Duties
Drives a small truck or similar vehicle to escort approved staff to the proper construction site. Staffs the security check points entering the airport Operations area, inspects all vehicles entering the airfield for explosives under the guidelines and mandates of the FAA. Performs random identification checks on individuals in the secure and restricted areas of the airport. Notifies Airport Operations Coordinators and Metro of suspicious situations and secure area violations. Checks badges of construction staff, inspectors and others involved with on-site construction projects within the airport. Operates a two-way radio to maintain communications with the FAA and Ramp Control towers while driving on the ramp, taxiway, and runway areas. Sets up construction cones, light carts, barricades and barriers to insure a safe and secure perimeter around all construction sites and hazards. Escorts emergency vehicles and staff in secured areas. Performs aircraft relocations. Performs aircraft engine runs. Responds to security breaches to assist in maintaining security perimeter integrity. Maintains records regarding individuals escorted; reports any incidents to the supervisor. Maintains County vehicles in a clean and orderly condition. Provides basic factual information to the public in response to inquiries. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Uses vehicle to deliver supplies to various locations at the airport facilities; unloads and stores materials. May assist staff in the terminal area.

Initial accrual is at the rate of 3.08 vacation hours for each biweekly pay period.Sick Leave: Eligible employees accrue 3.7 hours of sick leave for each biweekly pay period. Employees completing 10 years of service accrue an additional .92 hours of sick leave per biweekly pay period.Miscellaneous Leaves: Court leave, military leave, parental leave, leave without pay, blood donor leave, education leave, and County promotional/transfer application examination leave are available (upon approval) for eligible permanent employees.Retirement: Full-time employees become a member of the Nevada State Public Employees Retirement System. Credit Union: Clark County employees and their families are eligible to join the Clark County Credit Union.Tuition Reimbursement: Subject to availability of funds, eligible employees may be awarded tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of pre-approved, job related courses.
