SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Educational Specialist is to provide on the job training for
EVS staff. The role works with EVS managers to plan effective departmental education
and training program that to ensure compliance with institutional mandatory training
requirements, regulatory requirements (Joint Commission), divisional requirements, and
departmental and task-specific training requirements. This role reviews, assesses need,
and creates training content, and updates training content to support the professional
development of frontline staff. The role coordinates with SME on the instructional
design. The role also coordinates safety requirements and training with Environmental
Health and Safety. They also conduct training evaluations and post-delivery training
effectiveness evaluations. Designs evaluation tools to measure training programs
effectiveness. Collects and analyzes relevant statistical data related to staff knowledge
and competencies. Maintains records of training and ensures employee compliance with
all requirements.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Develops and deliver training content for EVS staff across all shifts Training is very
specific to mission-critical tasks in the EVS and includes the following content: proper
practice for in-patient room cleaning, patient room discharge, restroom cleaning,
Operation Room and sterile process area cleaning, regulated waste, trash removal,
recycling, furniture cleaning, and operations and maintenance of floor care equipment.
Primary training for use special items and equipment like motorized pallet jack, ready-todispense
chemical systems, cart replenishment, microfiber mops and towels
Program Coordination and Delivery Works with managers to plan effective
departmental education and training program that to ensure compliance with institutional
mandatory training requirements, regulatory requirements (Joint Commission), divisional
requirements, and departmental and task-specific training requirements.
Conducts training evaluations and post-delivery training effectiveness evaluations
Designs evaluation tools to measure training programs effectiveness. Collects and
analyzes relevant statistical data related to staff knowledge and competencies. Maintains
records of training and ensures employee compliance with all department requirements.
Conducts inspections of housekeeping and floor care tasks and projects to ensure
compliance with work instructions and standards. Conducts inspection of floor care
equipment maintenance to ensure proper operations and operator maintenance (before,
during and after use). Conducts at random interval inspections to span the various work
schedules in order to validate training performance and safety. Collects and reports
training evaluations and assessments for inclusion in Performance Evaluation System
Participates in departmental planning for future training needs for the department

Manages projects to completion, keeping manager up to date on status.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Psychology, Training & Development, Instructional Design or related field. Three years of experience in related field in a business or healthcare environment. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
