Position Summary:
Functions as a staff nurse under the guidance and supervision of an experience R.N. Performs routine patient care assignments and carries out established nursing procedures utilizing the nursing process.
II. Position Relationships:
A. Responsible to: Unit Director and Charge Nurse
B. Workers Supervised: None
C. Interrelationships: Works closely with patients, families and health
care team. Frequent interaction with unit staff, medical staff, vendors and other hospital departments.
III. Responsibilities and Authorities:
A. Performs other duties as assigned by the department’s management staff.
B. As patient care and/or Hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.
C. Participates in and promotes the “I CARE” service philosophy of Integrity, Customer Centered, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
D. Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations:
Performs the initial RN assessment for all new patients accurately while prescribing appropriate nursing actions to meet the needs of the patients.
Administers medications accurately and performs treatments based on hospital patient care standards, policies, procedures and protocols.
Reports pertinent observation and reactions/outcomes/ to appropriate person (i.e. physician, charge nurse, and/or Unit Director) in a timely
manner. Provides written observation accurately and concisely with effective follow-up.
Develops and updates individualized plans of care for assigned patients, reflecting nursing actions based on a holistic collaborative approach.
Demonstrates proficiency in cardiac assessments and documentation.
Knowledgeable of the pathophysiological aspects of the cardiac patient.
E. Participate in the education of patient’s family, significant others and peers.
F. Use decision-making and leadership skills to effectively manage patient problems.
G. Practice effective interpersonal skills and utilize the established channels of communication
H. Develop individual goals for professional growth.
I. Participate in achieving unit, departmental and organizational goals.
J. Delegates appropriate tasks to LVN’s, GVN’s, and non-licensed personnel on the unit.
K. Participate in the education of patient’s family, significant others and peers.
L. Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
M. Participates in both formal and informal staff development activities.
N. Access email (at minimum) once/per shift to retrieve important organizational information.
O. Maintains own educational records.
P. Maintains security, confidentiality, and integrity of employee, patient, family, and other medical information.
Q. Provide a collaborative environment utilizing Relationship Based Care Principles.

B. Assesses patient status systematically to anticipate and to respond to changes in clinical condition.
C. Collects pertinent patient and family data. Documents, modifies plan of care, and processes data appropriately and in a timely manner.
D. Integrates and maintains a Patient Plan of Care.
E. Demonstrates effective time management in prioritizing and delegating the implementation of patient care.
F. Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills accurately and within a reasonable period.
G. Anticipates patient care problems and makes interventions based on an understanding of the physiological and psychosocial processes and takes appropriate follow-up action with assigned acuity levels.
H. Participates in the education of patient, family, significant others, and peers.
I. Practice effective interpersonal skills and utilize the established channels of communications and chain of command.
J. Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
V. Qualifications:
A. Education:
Hold a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse. BSN preferred.
B. Training and Experience:
Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department.
