An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and creative Tutor to join our Supported Internship programme, to help young people with a range of special education needs to achieve their dream of securing paid employment.

Mencap’s Supported Internship programme combines education and practical work-based learning experiences to prepare young people for employment. As a Tutor you be part of a dynamic and supportive team and you will focus on the delivery of the educational element of programme, working closely with the team to provide holistic support in finding paid employment.

You will teach small classes of learners, typically in groups of ten, with the support of an LSA. The focus of the lessons are to develop the employability skills of the young people on the programme with English and maths embedded into the sessions.

The Tutor role is full time (37.5 hours, 5 days a week) and is based in London. You will be given at least one day a week for planning, preparation and assessment outside of the teaching requirements. There is flexibility to work from home to complete PPA activities.

This Tutor role would suit a motivated and highly qualified teaching, with significant experience of delivering to SEN students, who can create fund and engaging lessons by thinking outside of the box.

We would also consider applicants who have LSA experience within an SEN teaching environment (with a Level 3 teaching qualification) who are looking to pursue a teaching career. Mencap will sponsor the right person to achieve a Level 5 in teaching, as part of their CPD.

Key skills and requirements for a Tutor (essential):

• Strong teaching experience

• Experience of delivering against targets

• Experience of supporting learners with a diverse range of SEN needs

• Experience of ability to delegate tasks within the team preferred

• Knowledge and experience of delivering and assessing functional skills English and Maths up to level 2

• Strong evidence of safeguarding practice

• Good classroom management skills and strategies

• Good time management and planning skills

• A-C/9-4 English & Maths GCSE (or equivalent)

• Recognised teaching qualification at level 5 (DTLLS, PGCE, CertEd) or willingness to work towards

Please note – The salary will be dependent on your level of qualification Level 3 PTLLS and Level 4 CTLLS £27,540 FTE. Level 5 DTLLS, PGCE or Cert Ed £29,580 FTE.
