Our Engineers support new product commercialization at global manufacturing and packaging facilities in development, continuous improvement, and innovation roles.

Position Description:

The Associate Director, for Sterile Packaging Commercialization will report to the Director of Packaging Commercialization and Manufacturing Technology.

The successful candidate will focus on package development for delivery of pharmaceuticals (liquid, lyophilized products in vials, syringes, and other devices) as well providing input to primary packaging for sterile drug products and secondary packaging of medical device and combination products.

Overseeing design and selection of packaging solutions for new sterile pharmaceutical drug products (vaccines, large and small molecules), they will fulfill responsibilities through defining collaborative studies in cross-functional working groups and through leadership of multiple working groups with peers in Formulation and Analytical Development, Supply Chain, Operations and Marketing functions. They will provide functional alignment with Development and Commercialization Team leads for specific programs. The successful candidate will also work closely with marketing functions and the lines of business in the development of packaging for sterile Vaccines, Biologics, and Small Drug Molecules. Areas in which guidance and coaching will be provided include selection of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging materials and components, packaging process development, determination of package images to support commercialization as well as coordination of shipping distribution studies to test robustness of packages. Development activities for new products span Phase I clinical trials through technology transfer and commercial launch, including the preparation of relevant filing sections and responses to support approval of submission by to regulatory agencies for marketing approval. With an ability to take ownership of packaging business processes, the successful candidate will support continuous improvement in packaging, and contribute to community knowledge by keeping current with regulatory requirements and industry trends pertaining to packaging.

Strong technical leadership skills are necessary to assess technical, regulatory, and business risks and benefits for complex projects while leading multiple cross-functional teams both internally and externally in a fast paced, innovative environment. Candidates with experiences from sterile syringe development and manufacturing fields are preferred.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement

• A successful candidate will have a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Packaging Science, Biomedical Engineering or Pharmaceutical Science.

Required Experience and Skills:

The ideal candidate for this position possesses all the following:

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, packaging, or combination products

• Knowledge and understanding of parenteral dosage forms and delivery methods, including injection devices for self-administration, secondary packaging requirements, and cold chain distribution practices.

• An enthusiasm for collaboration with a diverse set of business partners within research, development, and supply, at a variety of locations within and external to our Company, with a demonstrated ability of being proactive for his/her projects as well as taking ownership for the department’s activities and being a champion and practice of inclusive behaviors and culture.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as extensive experience in leading and facilitating diverse teams, both face-to-face and in a virtual setting.

• Strong interpersonal and skills to lead discussions with partners from other functional areas when conducting risk assessments, designing experimental test plans, and seeking to utilize materials and resources outside the control of PC.

• Excellent time and project management skills to allow for the ability to successfully track multiple project assignments at a variety of different stages of development.
