Due to internal promotion, a fantastic opportunity has come about to work on some of New Zealand’s most iconic power stations in the beautiful Waikato based in the Hydro North area (Maraetai 1& 2, Waipapa, Arapuni, and Karapiro)
The Hydro Production Technician is an integral member of a dedicated team that maintains, operates, manages and continuously improves Mercury’s Hydro generation assets.
The role is a day work position, Monday to Friday (0730-1600), that will be primarily based at either one of the beautiful Arapuni or Karapiro Power stations on the magnificent Waikato Awa. The role will also require you to be familiar and participate in the first response roster for other sites within the North Hydro area. This includes the largest power scheme on the Awa, Maraetai, and Waipapa power stations. The role will involve you to train and to providing you with the tolls and skill to become a subject matter expert at your site while working with the wider team to support the needs of the other stations in the Hydro fleet. You will have the opportunity to learn from your peers and widen your expertise across our Hydro generation sites.
It is a hands-on role performing minor maintenance, plant rounds, plant operation for planned station start-ups and shut downs. The role is safety sensitive and will require you to work alongside others where you will be responsible for planning and implement safety measures, preparing and issuing work controls enabling our engineering, maintenance staff and contractors’ safe access to generation equipment. We are moving toward a reliability-centred maintenance model so this role will also tap into your technical experience and understanding of plant to contribute to defect detection, resolution and elimination.
