And these workers have few options to advance: college is too long and expensive, full-time bootcamp programs don’t offer the flexibility they need, and online courses don’t have the structure or support to translate learning into a new job. This catch-22 perpetuates a cycle of poverty–talented workers stuck in low-wage roles, with no way to advance their ambition for themselves and their families.

Our combination of online learning and best-in-class coaching prepares learners for entry level jobs in IT support, java development, and data analytics that usually offer twice what they were earning before the program. Merit works with companies to identify jobs that will be a great fit for our learners, and provides students with 12 weeks of job placement coaching and support to ensure they get the roles they will excel in.

To that end, Merit America is looking for an Alum Coordinator.

The Opportunity

The primary mission of the Alum Coordinator is to build and maintain strong relationships between Merit America’s graduates and the organization, leveraging alums to build awareness and trust in the organization and recruit new learners. As the Alum Coordinator at Merit America, you will work directly with alums to identify needs, build programs, and measure effectiveness with the ultimate goal of increasing recommendations from our alum base and a deeper bench of alum who are Merit America champions..

The Alum Coordinator will sit in the Brand team at Merit America.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Alum Coordinator will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Develop programs for support & learner recruitment

• Identify needs and build programs for Merit America to best support and highlight our alums–from recent graduates to our first graduates.
• Develop and implement programs to increase new employees’ persistence in new roles,
• Serve as a liaison with employers and provide feedback to Merit America on learners’ experience at employer partners to inform learner program design and supports.
• Create and implement a coordinated referral program for alums to refer potential learners.
• Develop systems to know and communicate with our alums individually, even as Merit America rapidly scales

Build relationships

• Develop mechanisms so that at least 80% of alums feel connected to the organization at 6 months and 12 months after graduation.
• Act as a single point of contact for alums to ensure consistency, and avoid inundating alums with requests.
• Work with the Communications Manager, to identify and recruit potential members for Graduate Voices and develop alums as spokespeople and storytellers. .
• Cultivate a key group of super-alums- those passionate, committed alums that want to continue to be involved in the organization, potentially joining the organization as Alumni Board members, staff, or Board members.
• Manage the Alum Board to set goals in support of the overall organization, managing them to success through monthly meetings and engagement activities.

Required

• Demonstrated ability to build relationships inside and outside the organization, including through a variety of stakeholders and across lines of difference
• Demonstrated experience coordinating and motivating groups of people
• Strong delegation and organizational skills
• Experience building metric driven engagement program in an entrepreneurial environment
• Experience in envisioning, creating, and operationalizing new, systems / processes for fast-scaling organizations

Preferred

• Demonstrated passion for our organizational mission and impact
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Keen interest in working with data to make recommendations and drive decisions
• Experience working with Salesforce
• Experience in organizing or peer-to-peer tools / software (such as Classy, Salsa, or ActionKit) a plus
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Be energized by our organizational mission and impact
• Proven history of living within our values
• Sense of deep personal responsibility for our collective success

Compensation, Benefits and Start Date

This position is full time

Salary Range (based on experience): $72,000

Location: Remote
