At Facebook Reality Labs Research, our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Operations Program Manager to join our team, whose mission is to invent the technologies needed to develop new ways for humans to interact with VR and AR devices. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in managing operations for a fast-moving technology or research team and who can support a team that is working on the next era of human-computer interaction. The chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will manage their operations, including purchasing equipment, managing and distributing headcount, and optimizing the use of research facilities.
Autonomously own and drive the operations of the team, and represent its dependencies, deliverables, needs, and reasons behind decisions to the broader organization.
Own staffing and budget management for a large research team, including: working with hiring managers to develop staffing plans and best practices for recruiting, working with budget owners to forecast budgets and track and optimize spending, and build cross-functional operational partnerships to support the team’s research.
Manage tasking for contingent operations workers: maintain and optimize processes for procurement and contracts.
Represent operational, policy, and legal constraints to team leadership and work with them to develop and drive plans that allow the organization to either successfully operate within those constraints, or make improvements to existing systems. Be a strong proponent of advocacy when representing your team’s dependencies, deliverables, needs, and reasons behind decisions to partners and stakeholders.
Proactively identify potential setbacks to research efforts and develop mitigation plans: communicate status, risks and mitigations to stakeholders and partners. Understand tradeoffs of various solutions and approaches such that you are able to spot new, less obvious solutions during planning, and choose the best solution for your programs.
5+ years of experience as an operations manager, project manager, or business manager at a technology company, research institution, or similar organization.
1+ years of experience in people management or vendor management.
A track record of planning, executing, and delivering results for complex and cross-functional technical projects.
Experience making quick and effective decisions that affect a team while navigating policy, legal, business, and logistics constraints.
Interpersonal and inter-team skills, including partnership building, mentorship, and conflict resolution within a diverse, cross-functional team.
