Metlakatla First Nation Looking for Metlakatla Greenhouse Gardener at Metlakatla, BC Full Time

Metlakatla First Nation has an immediate opening for a temporary part-time Greenhouse Gardener located in Metlakatla, British Columbia. As the successful candidate, you will provide the community with plants, food and greenery within the Metlakatla Village. Reporting to the Director of Recreation or designate, you will also be responsible for caring for the Greenhouse, including planting and growing plants, vegetables, seedlings and other greenery. Additionally, you will also help maintain an outside garden.

The position is from April 2023 to September 2023 with about 20 hours/week. An extension for 2024 may be considered considering the success of the project and available funding.

Responsibilities:

• Work with plants by moving, planting, and putting trays/containers on benches in the greenhouse.
• Organize products on docks when the arrival of shipments.
• Maintain a garden in the greenhouse and next to it.
• Seeding which includes filling and labelling trays with soil and plant seeds into trays manually to be grown.
• May need to build fences, assemble small gazebos, and ensure proper lighting.

• Perform other duties within the scope of the position, as required.

Qualifications:

• No previous experience is required; however, applicants with greenhouse or labour experience working with plants will be preferred.
• Must be able to work in all Greenhouse conditions, including wet, humid, dusty, dirty, and extreme hot/cold temperatures.
• Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
• Be able to stand on their feet, sit, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch or crawl with or without reasonable adjustments and for long periods.
• Well-organized and self-motivated.
• Physically fit and a willingness to work outside in a variety of conditions.
• May be required to submit a Criminal Reference Check with a vulnerable sector screening.
• Ability to demonstrate a commitment to embodying a personal addiction-free lifestyle.
• Comply with all Metlakatla policies and guidelines.
• Take on additional maintenance duties when requested.
