Atlantic Canada’s leading magazine publisher, Advocate Media Inc. and Metro Guide Publishing, is seeking an experienced and talented individual to join our growing team. For this new Editor’s position, the ideal candidate will be driven to deliver compelling content that engages readers for Advocate Media, Metro Guide magazines, and other publications. An extensive knowledge and understanding of, and love for, the geography, sociology, people, and value system of Atlantic Canada is a must.

This is not a copy editor position. It is much more!

Job Responsibilities

• Participate and/or lead editorial planning and execution for select magazines and special products. Includes editorial planning, budgeting, story assignment, and contributor engagement.
• Provide assistance to the editorial production of publications by editing, copy-editing, fact-checking, proofreading, researching and writing feature articles.
• Perform quality checks to ensure requested changes are implemented
• Build measurable success and readership of publication
• Coordinate with sales, circulation and production departments, to produce quality, desired content.

Qualifications

• Proficient in writing, as well as copy and photo editing.
• Experience in both hard news and feature writing.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in journalism.
• Strong time management and organization skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be comfortable working under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
• Highly motivated with a high level of initiative to work independently and in support of department goals and business objectives.
• Commitment to continuous process improvement initiatives and ability to solve problems creatively.
• Flexibility for travel
• All new hires are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID19, as per Advocate’s Vaccination Policy

Additional Assets

• Basic knowledge of four-color printing and publishing.
