Position Summary MSU Safe Place provides a wide range of services for those who experience relationship violence or stalking. We serve MSU students, staff, faculty and their partners. Counseling, advocacy, and shelter services are provided to survivors and their minor-aged children. In addition, volunteer and internship opportunities and community education are also provided. MSU is a large university with many resources and excellent benefits for employees. We strive to use multicultural and collaborative approaches to provide quality care. This is a new position and is funded with a federal VOCA grant, 10/1/21 – 9/30/22, with a possible extension contingent upon funding renewal. The duties of the Advocacy Coordinator include: I. Advocacy Coordination Completes need assessments with clients experiencing domestic violence Provides the following services to shelter residents and non-resident clients: survivor-driven advocacy including crisis intervention, support, safety planning, evaluation of basic needs, referrals, and case/cause advocacy with service providers interacting with clients that may include providing didactic information and relationship-building to improve safety to survivors and accountability to those who perpetrate abuse Provides advocacy on behalf of clients working with MSU Police, Office of Institutional Equity, Prosecutor’s Office, family court, and with other campus and community service providers Maintains client confidentiality Completes all required documentation in a timely manner Coordinates referrals to service in the community when necessary II. Additional Service Delivery Completes intakes for domestic violence survivors receiving services as needed Assists other staff in providing crisis intervention, support, safety planning, referrals, and other assistance for shelter residents and non-resident survivors as needed Provides support to meet shelter residents’ basic needs, including providing personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, over the counter medication, and groceries while in shelter, and assists in meeting survivor needs after shelter exits Shares on-call (standby) responsibilities with other full-time staff and attends to client emergencies and after-hours intakes; on-call duties are assigned for one week at a time, approximately 8-13 weeks/year Provides outreach efforts to expand service usage by survivors, especially related to marginalized community members III. Collaborative Efforts Works with other staff to encourage networking, relationship building and collaborative efforts with campus and community partners to ensure that culturally competent and trauma-informed services, policies and practices are in place to support domestic violence survivors. Attends community and campus based coordinated community response team meetings as needed. IV. Policy Development and Implementation A. Works with other staff to update the Standard Operating Procedures Manual as needed B. Works with other staff to update the Resident Manual for clients in shelter as needed V. Administrative A. Works with other staff to assist with budgeting, spending, and reporting B. Ensures all tasks completed follow university, grant and other guidelines and processes C. Maintains client database VI.
