We are hiring a Principal Software Engineer for our Australian based team with deep experience and expertise designing and delivering solutions using modern software engineering practices and cloud technologies. You will be working side-by-side with strategic Government customers and their engineers to build innovative solutions. You will solve exciting business problems and collaborating with the Microsoft product teams to improve our products, ultimately to make it easier for developers to use Microsoft platforms. We source our ideas and designs by maintaining very deep connections with these open-source communities and the customers and partners that use them. As a member of our team, you will thrive in working with a variety of technologies, not just Microsoft technology.

- Working hands-on with your team and our customers through design and implementation, setting examples for good engineering practices and coding along the way.
- Exhibiting technical leadership across the broader CSE organization, with the Microsoft Product teams and the OSS community.
- Model our core values and be a mentor, coach and advisor to other engineers on our team
- Continuously improving our ability to deliver quality solutions through evolving our engineering process and technical capabilities.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- At least 4 years of experience shipping or running production systems and/or software.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong service delivery experience including architecture and coding, and ideally building cloud services.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills, including working across geographics and cultures.
- We do not require deep expertise in all software stacks that customers use. However, we do look for people who have significant expertise in one software stack (and preferably more).
- A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or the equivalent
- Enjoy travel and comfortable with regional travel up to 20%
Security Clearance Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
- AU Citizen with NV1 Clearance. Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at AU Negative Vetting 1 or higher.
