Clerical Assistant 1 – Traffic Desk
Full-time
Salary Range: $15.37 – $19.45

Job Summary : This position serves as the first point of contact to public constituents for the Office of the Sheriff relating to parking citations . This department is an extremely fast-paced environment with minimal downtime and frequent interruption. Assists the general public in receipt and processing of traffic citations and accident reports. Handles large volumes of cash, check, and charge transactions. Ability to handle irate constituents on a regular basis in a professional manner is required . Responds professionally with all interactions of both internal and external constituents on the phone and face-to-face. Ability to make sound decisions according to the policy and procedures of the department without the necessity for the continued intervention by a supervisor. Ability to proficiently answer incoming calls and provide accurate information without providing legal advice or insertion of personal opinions.
Job Responsibilities:
Customer Contact – Handle large volume of face-to-face customer contact. Review all parking citations, accident reports, accurately process payment and uplift suspensions. Contact customer service and accurately process online payment information.
Cash Handling – Handle large volumes of cash, check, and charge transactions from consumers for the purpose of payment for having a parking citation and crash report. Balancing register on a daily basis. Must be able to count money accurately.
Phone Calls – Handle large volumes of incoming calls from Milwaukee County Constituents for various questions regarding traffic citations, accident reports and information on how to pay for the citation. Outbound calls to citizens to gather further information to process payment information and answer questions.
Mail Processing – Process large volumes of US mail and faxes received. Create written correspondence to consumers to request further information to complete their requests and/or to return paperwork when necessary. Enter all payment and constituent information into computerized tracking system.
Filing – File all parking citations, uniform tickets and RMS that are entered or cleared in the computerized tracking system. This task is done daily in numerical order by the citation date and ticket number.
Accurately verify and enter paper parking citation issued at the County parks into computerized system. All ticket information must be entered into the system before processing payment. *Duty only required during summer time.
Use of Equipment, Tools and Materials – Daily operation of PC’s, copiers, scanners, fax machines, multi-line telephones, and general office equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
This position requires you to have completed the vaccination against COVID-19 and provide proof of a completed vaccination as a condition of employment or submit a completed medical or religious exemption and accommodation request form.
Current resident of the state of Wisconsin
High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
At least one (1) year of cash handling and clerical work experience required and/or customer service required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to lift, carry, push and pull 25 lbs.; knowledge of office practices, principles, methods and procedures; knowledge of spelling, grammar, and punctuation; computer skills; ability to use general office equipment efficiently; written and oral communication skills; organizational skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to maintain records, files, and store items numerically, alphabetically or by classifications; ability to process information into a computer system; ability to perform basic math computations; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others.
