Ministry for Primary Industries Looking for Senior Forestry Service Adviser at Whangarei Central, Northland Full Time

Role Type: Two permanent full-time roles available

Location: Whangarei, Rotorua, or Gisborne

Salary Band: $92,073 to $108,321 depending on skills and experience

Join us to deliver a new forestry advisory service across the motu, providing valuable insights and advice to landowners and our forestry sector.

We have two Senior Forestry Service Adviser roles available which can be based in Whangarei, Rotorua, or Gisborne.

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the Role

As a Senior Forestry Service Adviser, you will be responsible for providing advice to landowners and the forestry sector to maximise the benefit of our forests and support sustainable land use management.

You’ll be part of a national team working with landowners and organisations like regional councils to support capability building in others, provide advice on the benefits of trees, increase regulatory awareness with various stakeholders, and provide quality information on TUR-NZFS’s work programmes.

Your key responsibilities for this role will include:

• Providing information, insights and advice on forests and forestry activity across all stages of the forest lifecycle
• Working locally with other forestry networks, industry, and other complementary groups to build knowledge and capability by sharing expertise, insight and information.
• Reviewing and signing-out advice provided by other advisers within the advisory team who are not registered to provide independent advice under the Forests Act.
• Acting as a trusted adviser to our customers and complementors, taking a seat at the table to work as strategic partners, connecting, and helping them to achieve their outcomes and
• Supporting Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service in local engagement and outreach activities
• Developing and utilising collaborative working relationships within MPI’s integrated advisory service network to increase the breadth and reach of our support

Mōu – About You

As the preferred candidate, you will be a registered Forest Adviser (or qualified to register) under the Forests Amendment Act, be confident giving unbiased and neutral forest advice, and have a strong understanding of Government policy and regulatory processes.

You will also have experience across the forestry lifecycle, work with a high degree of independence and have the ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Importantly, you will have excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare high quality advice (written and verbal) and credibly represent interests.
