The 2021 Integrated Review, and the Defence Command Paper, outline the global context, including the unprecedented challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic and threats we face. This includes climate change, geopolitical shifts, intensifying competition between states, a widening range of security threats, and rapid technological change.

The Ministry of Defence is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for its staff which includes educating them on the benefits of not smoking, protecting them from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke and supporting those who want to give up smoking. Under the Smoke-Free Working Environment policy, Smoking and the use of all tobacco products (including combustible and chewing tobacco products) will not be permitted anywhere in the Defence working environment by 31st December 2022. The policy is Whole Force and includes all Defence personnel, contractors, visitors and other non-MOD personnel. As a result of the changes to the UK immigration rules which came in to effect on 1 January 2021, the Ministry of Defence will only offer sponsorship for a skilled worker visa under the points based system, where a role has been deemed to be business critical.
The role currently being advertised has not been assessed as business critical and is therefore NOT open to applications from those who will require sponsorship under the points based system. Should you apply for this role and be found to require sponsorship, your application will be rejected and any provisional offer of employment withdrawn.

Think about occasions when you have previously demonstrated the behaviour described. This might be at work or somewhere else such as work experience, volunteering or in connection with a hobby. Don’t assume the recruiting manager will know or understand the situation you were facing, you will need to make sure it is clear how the example meets the behaviour being assessed.
You will not be asked for formal evidence against the behaviours until the interview stage.
You will also be required to submit a CV as part of the application. Your CV is the opportunity demonstrate your skills, experience and achievements. You should also include educational qualifications which are relevant to the role you are applying for e.g. professional qualifications.
