The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is looking for a Data Developer to join our new Data and Analytics Services team.

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

The Data Developer role sits within the Ministry’s Knowledge, Information and Analytics team. The purpose of the role is to support Ministry staff and other stakeholders to use data for insights and decision-making, and have information at their fingertips through leading the creation and curation of an authoritative, single source of truth, that’s able to amalgamate data holdings across the Ministry and external sources. This role is a Ministry technical thought leader for data warehousing.

You will join a boutique tight-knit, highly skilled team that works closely with stakeholders. There are great opportunities to be involved in interesting work.

Our work is valued as it supports key Ministry policy development and service delivery.

In this role you will:

• Develop, improve and maintain a high-quality and fit-for-purpose data warehouse
• Create and package code and reports for the data warehouse
• Coach and support data analysts, including Pacific Development Group data analysts, to write SQL code and specifications

The appointment range for this role is $95,555 (85%) to $129,281 (115%) total remuneration including employer contribution to kiwisaver – negotiable depending on experience.

• You love data, the more complex the better – understanding it, organising it, and managing it
• You are comfortable working across teams to curate one of the Ministry’s most important data assets
• You have excellent knowledge of best practice and theory in data warehousing, and have significant experience under your belt applying that theory
• You have advanced SQL skills and be an experienced user of the Microsoft suite of analytic products (e.g. SSMS and SSIS). Power BI skills would be an advantage
