Ministry of Justice – New Zealand Looking for Court Registry Officer, Whakatane at Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand Full Time

We are looking for a talented individual to come join our dynamic District Court team as a Court Registry Officer based in Whakatane. The position is permanent and full time commencing in January 2024. This is a great opportunity to experience working in a smaller, multi-jurisdictional registry team with plenty of variety – no 2 days are the same!

Te whiwhinga mahi/The Opportunity

Work in a team where you’ll support the day-to-day operations of the court by managing cases and working with different customers.

• Work with a range of stakeholders who interact with the court.
• Deliver a service with high accuracy and professionalism.
• Exercise Deputy Registrar powers.

As a Court Registry Officer, you will work in a team responsible for the successful operation of the Court in Whakatane and Opotiki. You will liaise with multiple stakeholders including defendants, witnesses, family members, Oranga Tamariki, Lawyers, and Police Officers. You will able to communicate confidently with Judges within the courtroom and their chambers, as well as other members of the judiciary.

Your Main Responsibilities Will Include

• Court Taking – facilitating the running of the court. This includes introducing Judges (in English and Te Reo Māori), working closely with them in the Courtroom and Chambers, and general administration of the court- calling cases and scheduling next events and updating the case management system in real time. Operating audio-visual links for participants to appear remotely.
• Customer Service – all courts have an onsite Customer Service area or hub that customers can access for any court related matter. You will work to answer customer queries via face to face, phone or email interactions.
• Case Management – this involves ensuring files are accurate and up to date. This part of the role involves a large component of data entry, liaising with judiciary and parties to ensure cases are well prepared for hearing.
• Having a full New Zealand drivers licence – this is because you will also travel to the Opotiki Hearing Centre and other Courts in the wider Bay of Plenty area.

To be successful, you will need to be:

• Detail-orientated and observant – the court has many different processes and case information needs to be accurate.
• Self-aware – you’ll understand our customers and will be confident working across a range of situations.
• Able to multi-task – managing multiple tasks quickly and reprioritising as the needs change.
• Willing to learn – legislation and processes in the courts is always changing and you will be self-lead, able to adapt, and respond to feedback.
• Resilient – at times when working in the courts, you will be working on sensitive cases and sometimes at high volume.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

The remuneration band for this role is $58,729 to $80,794 – while the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience.
